Chuntian Academy was founded in 1985 by Matthew Plewes, in Suffolk. Virginia U.S.A.. Matthew, then a Wu Xing Quan Kung fu assistant instructor, formally trained under Samuel Cheeks. He began formal studies under Master Terumasa Ogawa, Seikukan Shorinji Karate in 1976, and continued for several years. He ultimately switched to the Street-wise, defense based kung-fu. He also has had studies in the principles of Jeet Kune Do and Wing Chun . He is a certified Private Investigator and licensed teacher in Japan, and has trained and taught extensively both in America and Asia. He resides in Japan.
Chuntian Academy became commercial in 1996 in Suffolk, Virginia U.S.A.
The commercial school was well equipped, and many of it's students were security professionals, former and active military and /or Law enforcement.
Chuntian Academy became international when Matthew Plewes moved to Shizuoka, Japan in 2001 to further his martial arts research. He still lives, learns and teaches in Japan.
Sheik Azmir Ally of Singapore has been with Chuntian Academy International for 9 years. He is currently a 3rd Rank Instructor. He also is ex-military, having trained and served in the Singapore military. He is a fully accredited C.A.I. Instructor.
In 2010 after nearly 20 years in Japan, Sheikh returmed to Singapore to open Chuntian Academy - Singapore. He will still make visits to Japan and Master Plewes to Singapore to continue Sheiks training and advancement.
